New home build in Mickleham

Warm and welcoming, yet sophisticated modern home

Challenge
With an owner-brief to design and build a warm and welcoming, yet sophisticated and contemporary home, the challenge was established from the very start. The works also needed to ‘visually’ open up all the room spaces and bring a clear urban look and feel when you entered the front door. Through specified use of mirrors and glass, both carefully considered and placed, it was envisaged all of these dynamic benefits could be achieved. “To make all of these benefits come together required close collaboration with the Famous Frameless team – Dmitri and Josh,” said Rida, principal designer. “With their extensive knowledge of glass and mirror placement and installation across multiple rooms, they were the logical team to work with.”
Solution
A timber theme throughout the house was specified, allowing the owners to individually fashion their home to fit their lifestyle. A large mirror at the point of entry was part of this to add both space and light to the entry hall. “Josh and Dimitri took extreme care in handling such a large mirror and installed it to the exact positioning required,” added Rida. The open plan kitchen area had a natural and indeed generous amount of floor space with an abundance of natural light through the use of large openings – blending the landscape with the beautiful cathedral ceiling. To enhance this, mirror glass splashbacks were specified to create and indeed, magnify this look. The design had a splashback mirror continue to the return walls/bulkhead to create a large and seamless mirrored look. At the buffet table, a larger mirror was specified with a side return to tie the space to the rest of the room. “Dmitri and Josh were actively engaged at all levels of the works. From the finer details including power point placement and required cut outs around kitchen cabinetry, they were across all aspects of the works and their knowledge and skill level was outstanding.” “Indeed, their workmanship with the splashbacks including the careful consideration given to glass joint minimisation and the use of beautifully mitred corners rather than butting glass ends together, simply added to the fine finish we achieved,” added Rida.
Result

The home owners were, in a word, overwhelmed with the finish and the enormous space in the open plan area. The mirrored splashbacks greatly enhanced this look and gave the main entertainment area a ‘grand’ feel.

“At every angle you stand, the splashbacks and mirrors reflect the beauty of the surroundings,” concluded Rida. “It enhances the warmth of the ceiling’s western red cedar finish and blurs the line between inside and the beautiful bamboo garden outside.”
