Splashbacks
Mirror glass splashbacks are a clean way to make kitchens and laundries feel brighter, larger and more open. We custom measure, supply and install mirrored splashbacks across Melbourne, including clear, grey, bronze and smoked mirror finishes.
Mirror Splashbacks for Brighter Kitchens
Mirror glass splashbacks are popular in modern Melbourne kitchens because they reflect light, create depth and make the room feel more open. As part of our glass splashbacks range, they are a clean option for kitchens, laundries and renovation projects where you want a lighter finish without adding tile grout or heavy pattern.
Makes the Room Feel Larger
Mirrored splashbacks can visually open up smaller kitchens, apartment layouts and laundries by reflecting the surrounding room back into the space.
Reflects Natural Light
A mirror splashback can brighten darker kitchens by reflecting natural light, overhead lighting and nearby open areas back into the room.
Easy to Clean
With no grout lines behind the cooktop or sink, mirror glass splashbacks are easier to wipe down and maintain than tiled splashback walls.
Measured to the Kitchen
Every splashback is custom measured to suit the finished kitchen, including power points, cabinetry, rangehood areas and uneven wall conditions.
Clear, Grey, Bronze and Smoked Mirror Splashbacks
Different mirror finishes can completely change the feel of a kitchen. Clear mirror gives the strongest reflection and brightest appearance, while grey, bronze and smoked mirror splashbacks create a softer designer look.
Smoked mirror is sometimes called smokey mirror by customers. It usually refers to a darker tinted mirror finish that softens reflections and gives the splashback a moodier look than clear mirror.
The best option depends on your cabinetry colour, benchtop material, natural lighting and how reflective you want the splashback to feel in the space.
Popular Mirror Splashback Finishes
Mirror splashbacks can be bright and reflective, or softer and more subtle depending on the tint. Clear mirror gives the strongest reflection, while grey, bronze and smoked mirror finishes create a more toned down designer look.
How Mirror Splashback Installation Works
Mirror splashbacks need to be measured carefully around power points, rangehoods, cabinetry and uneven walls. We keep the process simple and manufacture each panel to suit the actual kitchen.
Measure the Space
We check the kitchen layout, wall conditions, appliance clearances and all required cut outs before the mirror glass is manufactured.
Glass Manufactured to Spec
The selected mirror finish is cut to size, prepared to suit the final measurements, and any power point, rangehood or fixing cut outs are completed before the panel arrives on site.
Installed on Site
The custom mirror splashback is installed to suit the kitchen layout, with neat silicone lines and power point covers fitted over the cut outs.

Cracked Mirror Splashback Replacement
We replace cracked mirror splashbacks in Melbourne apartments where standard non toughened mirror glass has been installed behind a cooktop.
In this St Kilda apartment, the original mirror splashback cracked because non toughened mirror glass had been installed behind the cooktop. We removed the damaged glass and replaced it with a properly manufactured toughened mirror splashback suitable for kitchen use.
Complex Custom Mirror Splashback Installation
Some mirror splashbacks are more involved than a simple flat panel. This project required precise custom shaping, a physical template and careful measuring before the glass was manufactured.
This custom smoked mirror splashback installation in Plenty required a high level of precision due to the curved radius corner detail. To achieve an accurate fit, we first created a physical template on site before the glass was manufactured. This allowed the finished mirror splashback to follow the curved wall detail cleanly and sit neatly within the completed kitchen.
Frequently
Asked
Questions
Common questions about mirror glass splashbacks, toughened mirror glass, cooktop safety, finish options, replacement and quoting.
Can mirror splashbacks be installed behind a cooktop?
Yes, but the correct glass must be used. Mirror splashbacks installed behind cooktops and heat producing appliances need to be made from toughened mirror glass to reduce the risk of cracking from thermal stress.
Standard mirror glass should not be used behind a cooktop. Heat, steam and nearby cut outs can place stress on the glass, especially in older apartment kitchens where non toughened mirror was sometimes installed as a shortcut.
Are there different shades of mirror splashbacks?
Yes. The most common mirror splashback finishes are clear mirror, grey mirror and bronze mirror. Grey mirror is often also called smoked mirror or smokey mirror, especially by customers.
Clear mirror gives the brightest reflection, grey or smoked mirror gives a softer and darker designer look, and bronze mirror adds warmth. The exact tone can vary slightly between mirror manufacturers, so samples are useful when matching surrounding finishes.
Why do some mirror splashbacks crack?
Mirror splashbacks can crack when the wrong glass is used, especially behind a cooktop. Standard non toughened mirror glass is more likely to fail from heat exposure, thermal stress, cut outs or pressure points around power points and appliances.
We often see this in older apartment kitchens where standard mirror was used as a cost cutting measure. For new mirror splashbacks, we use toughened mirror glass where heat or cooktop installation makes it necessary.
Are mirror splashbacks hard to keep clean?
The glass surface itself is easy to clean and does not have grout lines like tiles. The trade off is that mirror can show fingerprints, splash marks and smudges more easily than some other splashback finishes.
Darker grey or smoked mirror finishes can be less forgiving than clear mirror. Regular wiping with a microfibre cloth and a suitable glass cleaner usually keeps the surface looking good day to day.
Do mirror splashbacks make a kitchen feel bigger?
Yes. One of the main reasons people choose mirrored splashbacks is to create a brighter, more open feel. The reflection can help smaller kitchens, apartment layouts and narrow spaces feel less closed in.
Mirror splashbacks can also work well where there is limited natural light, because they reflect light from windows, overhead lighting and surrounding cabinetry.
Can you replace an existing cracked mirror splashback?
Yes. We regularly replace cracked mirror splashbacks in Melbourne kitchens, laundries and apartments. In many cases, the original glass was not toughened or was not suitable for the heat exposure around the cooktop.
Replacement usually involves removing the existing splashback, checking the wall, measuring the finished area and manufacturing a new toughened mirror splashback to suit the space. Apartment replacement work is usually charged higher than a standard new splashback because removal, access, protection and working around existing finishes can add extra time and risk.
Do you offer antique mirror splashbacks?
Yes. We can supply antique mirror splashbacks, including clear, grey and bronze antique mirror finishes.
Antique mirror is produced with varying levels of ageing and character, from a subtle aged effect through to a more heavily antiqued finish. Because the process is more manual than standard mirror glass, antique mirror is usually a more premium option.
If you are considering antique mirror, send through a few photos of the space and we can help work out which finish level suits the kitchen.
Do you install splashbacks across Melbourne?
Yes. We install custom glass splashbacks across Melbourne west, north and inner Melbourne suburbs.
Do you offer free on site measures and quotes?
We usually provide initial pricing from photos, sketches, plans and project details rather than attending every site for a free on site quote first. This lets us turn around useful pricing faster and focus site visits on projects that are ready to measure.
As a rough guide, mirror splashbacks start from around $600 per square metre before cut outs, removal work, difficult access or apartment replacement work are added.
To help prepare a quote, please send:
- Photos of the kitchen, laundry or bathroom
- A sketch, plan or approximate measurements
- The number of power point cut outs required
- Any additional cut outs or installation details you know about
- Your preferred mirror finish, if known
- Any access limitations such as stairs, lifts or restricted parking
Once we have this information, we can usually provide a fairly accurate quote and advise on the next steps for final measuring and installation.
Not sure which mirror splashback finish will suit your space?
Send through a few photos, rough measurements or renovation plans and we can help work out whether clear mirror, grey or smoked mirror, bronze mirror or antique mirror is the better fit.
